Client: State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation – Highways Division
Location: Hana, Maui
Project Type: Roadways

RMTC is prime consultant for this project to address rockfall and landslide hazards with mitigation measures which will provide safer highway conditions for road users.  The 32-mile length of highway is the only all-weather road into the Hana and Keanae communities.  The highway has rocky slopes which are high and steep, and parts of the highway have been identified as high rockfall hazard areas.  The specific scope of work includes field investigations, topographic survey, geotechnical exploration and a geotechnical report, an Environmental Assessment and required permits (SMA and CDUP); community outreach; and coordination with agencies, utilities, and other projects in the area.
